Wasteland Biweekly Briefs 3

A collection of brief stories from around the continent.

ANNAN? WATERS!

Following just a few weeks on the heels of the rainstorm in Silvermont, a freak storm buried the Spark South depot town of Annan under water and mud. Casualty lists and damage estimates are incomplete at the time of printing, as Farm Casualty and Insurance and Bernadelli Indemnity seem to disagree on total numbers, and also the town is still under a large quantity of water. Officials are warning civilians to keep clear of the town for the foreseeable future, with one officer quoted as saying “that’s going to be a toxic hole for a long time. It’s going to be concentrated death there until a proper cleanup can get underway.” The official spoke under condition of anonymity.

INVESTIGATIONS INTO CONTROVERSIAL STUDY SHUT DOWN OVER ALLEGATIONS OF PROFESSIONAL MALPRACTICE

Vareig officials who had been looking into the “75% of people” study have called off investigations into the study itself. According to a spokeswoman, the study’s methodology was flawed, “they seem to think that some of the population ’aren’t people’, according to these notes. It’s a shame that we live in a day and age where racism is alive and well.” The disappearance of the researchers is still under investigation, according to Interpol.

SYNDICATE LEADER GALLAGHER ARRESTED IN GOLDPLATE?

Unconfirmed reports from Goldplate indicate that Third Eye Syndicate captain Gallagher was spotted in Interpol custody, along with two of his lieutenants. Sources in Interpol have refused to comment, citing an ongoing investigation, but have promised a statement later this month.

SILVERMONT MEMORIAL COMPLETED, DECLARED HALLOWED GROUND BY CHURCH

In a somber mass and ceremony this week, Overfather Statum dedicated the statue in Silvermont that was erected in memorial of the lives lost in the rainstorm that destroyed most of the town. Work continues in rebuilding Silvermont, despite new allegations of Syndicate involvement in the reconstruction process. No word from the Church on any plans for a similar monument in Annan.

SOMEONE AT THIS PAPER STILL LIKES ME

And they’ll keep printing this story, if they know what’s good for them. The rainstorm in Annan wasn’t natural. It was the Syndicate’s doing. I was there, and so was Gallagher. He was up to something there, and I’m sure it involved what happened in Silvermont. Just because the Herald fired me doesn’t mean I won’t get to the bottom of this. There are good people out there if you know where to find them.

BANDIT LEADER REGAN ALIVE AND UNWELL?

Aradace rural police forces released a statement reminding citizens that the bandit leader Bruto Regan is still at large, despite a dedicated manhunt. Officials are offering a reward for any information that leads to his discovery and/or arrest. Regan was last seen in Aradace escaping medical custody. Police officials remind citizens that he is to be considered armed and dangerous, despite his current condition. Captain Vega of Aradace Metro is quoted as saying “This is a slippery bastard we’re dealing with. He’s eluded capture and caused mayhem for more than a decade. He knows what he’s doing. I don’t want to hear of any civilians hurt or killed trying to capture him. We’re putting together a task force to head up the manhunt and bring this bastard in to face justice.” Regan is personally responsible for more silver worth of stolen and damaged property over the course of his career than several of the Aradace Families.
